Bank holidays in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2013 and 2014

Knowing the dates of the official bank holidays in Geneva (both local and national ones, valid on all Switzerland) is very useful. It allows you to know when supermarkets and shops will be closed and it’s essential if you work and want to plan a getaway in advance (well, it’s also useful if you don’t work and actually want to avoid public holidays when planning a trip to escape the expensive prices… :)).

When you Google it, there are many lists including religious holidays that are not considered “jours feriées” and are, actually, working days. So to avoid mistakes, a friend from the office gave me the tip to Geneva’s official website reliable list of bank holidays for the rest of 2013 and the year 2014. Here they are:

2013

  • September 5th – Geneva’s Day (Jeûne Genevois)
  • December 25th – Christmas (Noël)
  • December 31st – Restoration of the Republic (Restauration de la République)

2014

  • January 1st – New Year (Nouvel An)
  • April 18th – Good Friday (Vendredi-Saint)
  • April 21st – Easter Monday (Lundi de Pâques)
  • May 29th – Feast of the Ascension (Jeudi de l’Ascension)
  • June 9th – Pentecost Monday (Lundi de Pentecôte)
  • August 1st – Swiss Day (Fête Nationale)
  • September 11th – Geneva Day (Jeûne Genevois)
  • December 25th – Christmas (Noël)
